Í hjarta Parísar verður lítil stofa að suðupotti nýrrar listar. Óperan 27 segir hrífandi ástarsögu Gertrude Stein og Alice B. Toklas, tveggja kvenna sem sköpuðu heimili, samfélag og skjól fyrir helstu listamenn tuttugustu aldar. Þar hittast Picasso, Matisse og Hemingway áður en heimurinn þekkir nöfn þeirra – og innan veggjanna takast á ástríða, metnaður, vinátta og hugmyndir sem eiga eftir að breyta listasögunni. Ricky Ian Gordon og Royce Vavrek flétta saman tónlist, húmor og hjartnæma sögusýn í aðgengilegri samtímaóperu um ástina sem lifir af stríð, átök og tímans þunga nið.

In the heart of Paris, a small salon becomes a hub for a new artistic movement. 27 tells the captivating love story of Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas, two women who created a home, a community, and a refuge for some of twentieth century’s greatest artists. Within these walls, Picasso, Matisse, and Hemingway gather before the world knows their names, and passion, ambition, friendship, and ideas collide—ideas that will go on to reshape the history of art.

Composer Ricky Ian Gordon and librettist Royce Vavrek weave together music, humour, and a deeply moving perspective in an accessible contemporary opera about a love that endures war, conflict, and the relentless passage of time.
